Empowering Women in Construction during National Careers Week
In an industry once dominated by men, women are breaking barriers and leaving their mark in the construction sector like never before. This week, we are combining Women in Construction Week with National Careers Week to spotlight and honour the dedicated women who have forged their careers from the ground up at Algeco.
What is Women in Construction Week?
Women in Construction Week aims to recognise the invaluable contributions of women in the construction industry. Celebrated annually during the first week of March, it often serves as an occasion to address the challenges women face in the industry and encourage more women to pursue careers within it. At Algeco, Women in Construction Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about career possibilities, promote inclusion in the workplace and showcase inspiring women and their stories.
What is National Careers Week?
This annual event seeks to raise awareness of career opportunities, growth and success. During careers-related national days, we typically share stories of career development from dedicated employees who have excelled in their professions to those just embarking on their career journeys. The aim is to empower individuals and inspire them to strive for their career goals.
Allow us to introduce two inspiring women, whose journeys began as cleaners, showcasing that with perseverance and dedication, you can achieve a great career in the construction industry.
Meet Zdravka and Tanya, whose journeys stand as a testament to the limitless potential of women in construction.
In 2020, Zdravka joined our team as a cleaner. However, her ambition knew no bounds. With unwavering determination, she transitioned to the role of a maintenance operative. Stepping outside her comfort zone, she embraced challenges and honed her skills, ultimately securing the position of a cabin fitter. Today, she sets her sights on becoming a senior fitter, fuelled by her passion and perseverance.
Another remarkable woman, Tanya, embarked on her journey in August 2023. Despite being with the company for less than a year, she wasted no time in taking on fitter responsibilities and tasks. Her determination serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and peers.
As we celebrate Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day approaches, let us celebrate the achievements of women like Zdravka and Tanya.
The empowerment of women in construction is not just about celebrating journeys, it’s about breaking stereotypes, prioritising inclusivity in the workplace and creating a better future for women in construction.
Zdravka and Tanya’s journey serves as a reminder that the potential of women in construction is limitless. Regardless of where you start, you can too find a successful career in the construction industry with perseverance.
