Algeco MOD Project

MOD Kinloss/Stafford

The project

Back in July 2022, Algeco secured two major MOD contracts with a combined value of £31m, to supply high quality modular accommodation.

The £21m MOD Kinloss Barracks in Forres, Scotland, comprises a 112-bedroom Single Living Accommodation for Junior Ranked Officers.

MOD Stafford is a £10m contract to supply a 60-bedroom Single Living Accommodation, also for Junior Ranked Officers.

Progress so far

Work began on the Stafford site in September 2022, while Kinloss commenced in December. Both projects are following a 46-week schedule and are progressing well. They’re on track for completion by the target date, and are currently looking great in the summer sunshine!

Algeco is acting as Principal Contractor on both projects, providing a full turnkey solution including demolition of the existing buildings and full fit-out of the new accommodation.

The modules have been manufactured in our factory at Carnaby in East Yorkshire, and they were delivered to site with a Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV) of around 80%.

This has helped to minimise disruption to the local communities by reducing noise pollution and vehicle deliveries. What’s more, because most of the work is completed offsite, health and safety risks are significantly reduced, and we’re proud to report an excellent safety record on both of these projects.

Outcomes

The projects will result in 2 three-storey buildings that will provide high quality living accommodation with en-suite bedrooms and integral communal areas. They will feature a brick slip façade and sustainable features including solar PV and heat pumps.

The completed buildings are aiming to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, meaning they will be in the top 10% of UK new non-domestic buildings in terms of best practice.

Working with the architects, Algeco has incorporated a number of innovative features into the design, such as solar PV orientation to maximise the amount of electricity produced and optimising the number of overall modules required.

What it will deliver for the client

The MOD’s SLA Programme aims to prioritise the modernisation of under-invested, core sites that are to be retained across the Army estate. By renewing the oldest accommodation on the estate, they are raising the quality of Single Living Accommodation, and improving conditions for Officers.

Our modular solution will create two modern, comfortable and fit-for-purpose accommodation facilities for the MOD.

We’re looking forward to handing over two smart, energy-efficient and much-needed SLA blocks for the Junior Ranked Officers.
