Algeco extend Newbridge School ready for start of new term
Brief
Ofsted Outstanding-rated Newbridge School in Romford, Essex, in the London Borough of Redbridge, is a special school academy catering for children and young people between the ages of two and 19 years. The students at the school have complex learning difficulties, often accompanied by additional special educational needs.
A review by the local Redbridge Council recommended the creation of 140 new SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) school places by 2023 across the region, including Newbridge School. The council subsequently approved an additional 21 places at Newbridge School in November 2022.
The decision was taken to invest in creating high quality, energy efficient school buildings that would address the substantial growth in demand for Special Education Needs (SEN).
This project was procured by the client through the Crown Commercial Service Modular Building Solutions Framework RM6014 LOT 1.
Solution
Our offsite team proposed a full turnkey solution for Newbridge School for its new Modular SEN provision. We worked with Lungfish Architects for the duration of the project because they share our vision for creating inspiring learning environments for the education sector.
Our experienced offsite team kept disruption to a minimum on this full turnkey project. We deployed specialist teams on site including pre-construction and project professionals who understand the issues involved in developing education sites and the importance of reducing disruption to teaching.
They provided regular updates to the team at Newbridge School for the duration of the project. Communication with all project parties is a key measure for us on site.
The wellbeing, health and safety of the pupils and staff were of paramount importance for us throughout the project.
Newbridge School was completed as part of a turnkey solution by our offsite team ready for September 2023 pupil intake.
Results
We have more than 50 years’ experience in the education sector, so know exactly how to deliver teaching spaces that are compliant with all relevant Building Regulations, the Building Bulletin and other education building standards.
The modules are built to standards that meet or exceed building standards and were delivered to site with a high level of completion. That mean they were ready to accept pupils much quicker than an on-site build.
The modular solution supplied to Newbridge Schools offers great flexibility, allowing them to respond to changing needs or demographics by easy expansion through the addition of further modules, or even moved to another location.
Our energy-efficient education buildings are designed to be manufactured, delivered and operated to reduce their impact on the environment. Buildings are also designed to be recyclable and simple to expand or remove in response to changing local needs.
Outcome
The new teaching spaces at Newbridge School now provide a warm and welcoming environment for pupils, teachers and carers. The pressing need for additional places is driving significant changes in the type of construction technique specified, and it is fitting that this Ofsted Outstanding school chose modular construction as a means of creating new teaching spaces ready for the September term.
