PURPOSE

The Health and Safety Management Systems and Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management systems that ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and company policies working towards full integration cross-functionally. The role requires the design and maintenance of safety frameworks including policies and procedures, as well as; audits, risk assessments, and training programs to foster a proactive safety culture and minimise workplace hazards. The role leads efforts to ensure the organisation's adherence to safety legislation, drive continuous improvement, and provide strategic guidance on health and safety matters including the continuous improvement for safety culture through visible felt leadership programs.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety Systems Management:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the organisation’s Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) in line with recognised standards such as ISO 45001.
  • Ensure alignment of HSE systems with company goals, industry best practices, and legislative requirements with alignment with global systems.
  • Design and conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with safety policies and standards with a three line of assurance approach.
  • Identify key leading and lagging performance indicators (KPIs) to track and report on the effectiveness of safety initiatives and systems (Business and Environment Manager supports this)
  • Support the HSE Director to develop and refine a five year strategic plan with annual incremental activities to achieve the objectives

Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:

  • Ensure the organisation is fully compliant with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and industry best practices and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities for site inspections, reporting, and permit management as required.

Risk Management and Incident Prevention:

  • Conduct hazard analyses across all company operations and monitor compliance with risk assessments
  • Identify and mitigate risks by implementing appropriate safety controls and processes.
  • Collaborate with departments to integrate safety protocols into daily operations and new projects.
  • Manage emergency preparedness programs, including the development of evacuation plans and crisis response strategies.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree level in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (NEBOSH Diploma or working towards, min NEBOSH General Cert).
  • Professional certification in Health and Safety Management (e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in health and safety management, including experience with management systems and compliance.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing health and safety systems (ISO 45001,standards, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of local, HSE regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and audit skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Experience in world class continuous improvement methodologies preferable

Work Environment:
This role may require periodic travel to company facilities or sites for inspections, audits, or training sessions. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to manage urgent compliance issues or incidents.
